One of the most important observations to make is the one Dvorak himself made over 80 years ago. You should think about your typing in terms of digraphs rather than individual letters. As a reminder, a digraph is a set of two characters, such as DE or IN or ST. Typing is not merely a matter of how quickly (or even how accurately) you type individual letters, but about how quickly you type combinations of those letters (which Dvorak called "plays for position"), and therefore people should practice typing techniques and patterns as they occur in regular English language writing. Minimizing the angular motions of your fingers between every possible digraph as much as possible is a fundamental building block of advanced typing. For this reason, he rejected keyboard drills and so do I. Typing ASDF JKL; over and over prepares you for nothing when AS is the only digraph that occurs often in actual language.🏁
