It will involve a heavy burden for our taxpayers, because the job of building. the strength we need to safeguard the security of this Nation is enormously expensive. Despite its size, this is not a Budget for all-out mobilization. It is a Budget carefully planned to carry us a long way forward on the road to security--at a pace which is not only within our present economic capacity, but which will enable us to grow stronger in the years to come. If new international tensions do not develop, and if no further aggressions are attempted, I hope we will be able to reduce Budget expenditures after the fiscal year 1954. By then we should have completed most of our currently planned military expansion.🏁
